3 Months Old!

Parker,
My sweet little Bubba, today you are three months old. You are no longer a newborn, but have reached ‘infant’ status.
I can hardly believe it.
You are starting to (loosely) fit into your 3-6 month size clothes, which is exciting, yet I can’t help but feel a bit sad as I begin to pack all your tiny little 0-3month onesies away.
So what have you been up to this month?
* *  You love to smile at people—especially girls (watch out, ladies! He’s a flirty little bug)
* *  You’re a pro at holding your head up, and you have been for a long time now.
* *  You hold on to things now—especially your rattle.
* *  You definitely have your full-on chubby baby cheeks now!

* *  You rolled over from your tummy to your back. It’s only happened a few times, but I know it won’t be long before you’re rolling all around!
* *  You can sit in your Bumbo chair and play in your Jumperoo.

* *  You are a social bug! Whenever we take you somewhere new, you would much rather look at everything than take a nap.
* *  You found your hands, which are constantly now in your mouth.

* *  You sleep unswaddled, even at night.

* *  You can stand up (briefly) with minimal support from mommy or daddy.
* *  You can wear a hat without fussing.
* *  You like baths—mostly.
* *  You are rockin’ the cloth diapers! I know this is more mommy and daddy’s doing, but you look so cute in them, I had to add some pictures.

* *  You can fall asleep all on your own.
* *  You’ve moved up a clothing size—you now are proudly sporting your 3-6month clothes!

I love to watch you as you grow—learning and doing new things every day. Most days I’m excited to one day see your first steps, see you taste your first ‘solid’ food, and hear your first word.
But not today. Today, I would very much appreciate it if you slowed down a bit. Because before long, you will outgrow the changing table that you love. You won’t need your midnight feedings anymore, which—although exhausting—are so precious to me. You won’t need your crib and play gym mat for your playtime because you won’t be lying on your back to play anymore—you’ll be rolling, crawling, and eventually running around. For sure, your cute little tush won’t fit in one my hand as it does today when I carry you around.
Your daddy and I love you so much and can’t imagine our lives without you. God sent you to us as a perfect gift that He knew we needed. We are excited to continually see the little person God created you to be. We see it in your passionate personality: your inquisitiveness, your eagerness to see and hear and touch everything (we know that the ‘tasting everything’ will come all in good time!). You are beautifully and wonderfully made.
Thank you for being such a joy in our lives!
All my love,
Mommy (and Daddy)

The Cloth Diaper(s) Champion(s)

The Results are in! After about of week of trading off between 3 different One Size Cloth Diaper brands—bumGenius 4.0, Flip, and Fuzzibunz—we’ve decided on a winner! Actually, we decided on two winners.

Winner #1: Flip One Size Diaper with Snap Closures
The first thing we decided right away is that the Flips were BY FAR the easiest to work with because the insert lays on top of the diaper cover and comes right out:
the removable insert:

So it made diaper changes quick and easy . Just remove the soiled insert (give it a quick spray-down) and put a new one in. So you can use the same diaper cover (the colored outer “shell” of the diaper) for most of the day. The Flip diaper is perfect for around-the-house use.
The other two brands—bumGenius 4.0 and Fuzzibunz—were both pocket diapers, which means the insert stays in the pocket. See here:

So when there’s a dirty diaper, you just toss the entire thing—the diaper cover and insert—into the wash (after spraying it down first).
I found this to be a bit more daunting.  Some people prefer pocket diapers, but they just aren’t for us—at least not for “around the house” everyday use. I felt like I would be doing a lot more laundry and going through a lot more diapers every day. With the Flips, I would just be going through more inserts which are easier/ faster to do laundry with.
However. ..
Pocket diapers are GREAT for a few things. Because they are SUPER absorbant…
#1- Pocket Diapers are great as overnight diapers. You can put two inserts in the pocket and that’s enough for Parker to go all night (8-10 hours) without a diaper change.
#2- Pocket Diapers work well if you’re going to be out of the house for several hours . You can go like 4-6 hours without having to change your little one’s diaper (I wouldn't recommend this for every day, just on the occasion where you're out and about and unable to do a lot of diaper changings).
So we thought it’d be great to have a few Pocket Diapers on hand for overnights and out-of the-house day trips. And between the two brands, we decided to go with…
Winner #2: FuzziBunz One Size Diaper with Snap Closures
We liked the fit of the FB—it was much trimmer...

(yah, that's my son's cute fuzzi bunz!!!)

...and we loved the adjustable elastic around the legs that allow a perfect fit:
Perfect fit around the legs= no blowouts or leaks! bumGenius doesn’t have the elastic, only snaps. So the fit isn’t as precise. Also, bumGenius was a bit bulkier. Not a big deal, but definitely noticeable. I also liked the material of FB better. It is super soft, so I can only imagine that it’s a tad bit more comfy on my little guy’s bottom.
And the final reason that Fuzzibunz won? The color options! Check out the color choices between FB verses BG.
Fuzzibunz:

 bumGenius:
Totally not a determining factor, but it’s a super plus especially since I'm not a huge fan of the BG pastels, so that really only leaves 6 colors to use for BG.
So  in the end, we ended up getting 12 Flips and 8 Fuzzibunz diapers.
Stay tuned to see what Cloth Diapering is like full-time in the Reyes home! :o)

10 Weeks Old: Photo Shoot (and poop!)

Today, Parker turned 10 weeks old (double digits, baby!) so of course I had to get some pictures.

Today he wore his big-boy overalls for the first time.

He was super cute, looking at the camera and making faces.

When I suddenly hear a familiar rumbling sound coming from baby boy’s little bum…

Went to his changing table... Photo shoot over.
